Xarthisius was a Nilfgaardian mage of dubious note, more of a fortune-teller and astrologer according to peers.

Biography

When the future emperor, Emhyr var Emreis, was still in his youth, the mage convinced him that a cure for his curse could be found in the North which, incidentally, he did, in Cintra. The mage was later rewarded by the emperor with his own tower and astrological equipment.

Later, he was given the task of locating Ciri, not realizing who he was actually trying to find or that Emhyr knew a false one had been presented to him in court. With the girl's date of birth and some of her hair, Xarthisius managed to locate her within a hundred mile zone - the issue was the area was the Korath desert, a highly unlikely place for the princess to show up in. Nonetheless, Stefan Skellen was sent out to investigate, but the imperial coroner only found scorpions and vultures. For this miscalculation, the mage was unceremoniously tossed in the dungeon. Ironically, he was accurate in his readings: Ciri had been in the desert and made it to the edges before she was captured by Trappers and taken away, never making it into the hands of the prefect or Skellen.[1]
