The Beast of the Sewers is one of ten trophy quests, but it is the only one of the ten which is necessary to plot advancement and therefore not optional. It is also the only one of these quests which is not obtained by killing the beast, but given by an individual, in this case Vincent Meis.

[edit] Walkthrough

Maal'kad sephirot

Siegfried of Denesle

This is the quest which enables Geralt to get out of the Dungeon. When he tried to leave the Outskirts of Vizima at the end of Act I, after having killed the Beast, Geralt was ambushed by City guards, who with the help of Mikul, quite unceremoniously threw the witcher into the dungeon. All is not lost though as Vincent Meis, captain of the City Guard, announces that there is a way to win passage out of prison by defeating a greater cockatrice which is currently roaming, unchecked, through the Sewers. This seems an ideal option for our hero... But first, there's a small matter of fisticuffs to settle.

Having settled that issue one way or another, Geralt descends into the sewers, and there he meets Siegfried of Denesle, a knight of the Order of the Flaming Rose. He can either take the knight up on an offer to work as a team to get the cockatrice, or go it alone. This decision will have repercussions during Act II.

[edit] Notes

  • Search the remains of the beast not only for the trophy head, but also for the Maal'kad sephirot.
  • It is not strictly necessary to complete this quest in Act II as it is not the actual quest to get out of the dungeon. That's Prison Break, which leads to this quest and must be completed or the game cannot continue. You must kill the cockatrice or die as the encounter begins with a cut scene and i don't think you can run away (not that you'd want to!). Since killing the beast is necessary, it seems a shame to waste an opportunity to earn some orens in addition. Technically, however, this quest really only refers to cashing in the trophy head, which can be done at any time.
  • The only real concern with trophy heads is not having more than one to cash in at any one time as there is only one trophy hook in Geralt's inventory.

[edit] Phases

[edit] The Skoffin

I killed the cockatrice and took its head as the proof. I should talk to Vincent. I need to deliver the proof of having killed the cockatrice to Vincent.

[edit] A New Employer

  • This phase only occurs if Geralt does not complete the quest in the course of Act II

Vincent no longer holds the key to the coffer. I should see the Royal Huntsman about my reward.

[edit] Proof

I delivered proof of having killed the cockatrice and received 400 orens. I received my payment for the trophy. (400 + 3000 XP)
