Strangers in the Night is a very short secondary quest available in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, taking place west of the Vegelbud Residence and east of the Eternal Fire Chapel near the river, in Velen. The quest is initiated by simply interacting with one of the three men camping by the river. After joining them there are a few dialogue options, leading up to Rufus, the Redanian soldier, accusing Manfred of being a spy for the Nilfgaardian Empire, believing him to be too well informed for his apparent guise as a merchant.

Possible outcomes Edit

If Geralt doesn't introduce himself and tries to leave:
both Rufus and Manfred will attack Geralt.
If Geralt introduces himself...
...then leaves:
nobody dies.
...and asks about the world then hands off the merchant:
Rufus will die.
...asks about the world, says to calm down, and that he'll hold the merchant:
Manfred will die and a diagram is given as a reward.
...asks about the world, says to calm down, and that he'd rather stay out of it:
Rufus kills Manfred and no Tw3 icon xp is given.

Notes Edit

  • If you sided with Rufus, he would note that Manfred had Nilfgaardian florens, confirming his accusations. However, Manfred is a merchant and there's nothing strange for him to own Nilfgaardian currency.
