Skjordal Drummond was the jarl of Clan Drummond ruling the southern portion of Ard Skellig in the 10th century.

He had a daughter, Herkja, who died by his side during the war with Harald an Craite. The jarl's legacy survives through his monuments.

Biography[]

Reign and fall[]

Throughout his reign, Skjordal became famed. One of the deeds he gained renown for was ordering the Eldberg Lighthouse to be built in order to safely guide sailors to Arinbjorn.[1]

When he was already quite old, a war of clans erupted. Invading the jarl's land was the joint force of Harald the Cripple, the ambitious leader of Clan an Craite, and his ally Tyrggvi commanding the Clan Tuirseach. Skjordal and those loyal to Drummonds, such as the infamous berserkers, fought honorably but were ultimately beaten. After watching his own daughter die, the jarl was beheaded in a fight with Harald.[2]

Legacy[]

Following Skjordal's demise, Drummonds lost a substantial chunk of their territory to the Craites. Harald became the new King of the Skellige Isles and the alliance he sealed with Tuirseachs thrived for centuries to come. However, so did the animosity with Clan Drummond.[1]
