[edit] Early Life
When he was a boy, Nivellen was sickly. His father and grandfather had made a fortune by leading a gang of miscreants and cutthroats, and Nivellen rose to command them after his father was killed with a blow from a two-handed sword.
One day the gang robbed a temple in Gelibol and had Nivellen rape the young priestess there. She spat in his face and cursed him to be a "monster in a monster's skin", and then killed herself. Unbeknown to Nivellen and the gang, the woman was a priestess of Coram Agh Tera, the Lionheaded Spider.
A couple of days later, Nivellen's form had changed, though his mind and personality had remained untouched. The people in the house fled while Nivellen raged, in panic, and the house obeyed his whims, the doors banging shut and the furniture flying.
[edit] Cursed
Nivellen stayed in the manor, alone, for a long time, until one day he espied a man stealing a rose from a rosebush that Nivellen's aunt had cherished.
Hoping for a cure to his state, Nivellen demanded the man to give up his daughter. This led, ultimately, to girls coming to live with him for a year each, and leaving at the end of the year with gold and gemstones. Until one who stayed...

[edit] Notes
- According to Nivellen, when Geralt meets him, it's been twelve years.
- One of the hunting trophies on the wall is the head of a rock dragon. Nivellen says that his grandfather killed it, and that it was quite possibly the last of such creatures in the area.
