Quest Description Edit
- "The notes left by Hendrik, the Nilfgaardian agent, mentioned that Ciri had quarreled with some witch, and that the newt-stewer in question could be found near the village of Midcopse. Exactly where, Geralt did not know - and so he was forced to swallow his manly pride and ask the locals for directions."
Find the witch on your own or ask about her Edit
Geralt can either learn the location of the witch by listening to the villagers of Midcopse or going directly to the witch's lair, see below. There are a few specific villagers that Geralt must speak to, and this is best accomplished during the day, as most people are asleep and unresponsive to questioning at night. One peasant woman who can usually be found outside her home sweeping, nearby the central village well mentions a witch. She will direct Geralt to speak with her husband who recently went to visit the witch to cure a bad back injury.
Note: Try the alternate source of information if you don't have Axii Delusion level 2, it will save you some crowns
An alternative source of information is from a group of peasant women gossiping outside a house in front of a small fire, also near the village well. Geralt can begin to listen to their conversation, but if he gets too close they will quiet each other until he walks further away. A third source of information is an old man smoking a pipe near the Western entrance of the village. He will quickly offer up the witch's location.
Talk to the peasant who visits the witch often Edit
Approach and speak with the peasant man nearby the rear of the house where Geralt questioned the peasant woman. He won't give up the information easily, either pay 50 or use Axii ( requires Delusion level 2 and grants a 35 XP reward) to loosen his tongue. The peasant will describe a trail that passes a nearby pond, some rocks and an old cart. After giving directions he'll mention that he's heard tell of witch hunters in the area and begs that Geralt does not harm the witch that has been so helpful to him.
Eavesdrop on the gossiping women Edit
Once Geralt starts listening to the two women speaking he will be given this objective. Continue listening from a distance, as one woman talks about her private dealings with the local witch and describes the way to reach the witch to the other.
Keep your distance Edit
Geralt will get this objective if he gets too close to the two women conversing. If Geralt talks to them directly, they will quickly deny any knowledge of a witch and send Geralt packing.
Find the pond by the village Edit
Search just North of the village for the pond and the road that runs along it lengthwise.
Find the line boulder Edit
After reaching the Northwestern tip of the pond, a large rock should be visible standing tall just a bit further to the Northwest. This boulder marks the start of a path off the main road which Geralt should follow to an abandoned cart.
Find the abandoned cart Edit
Follow the path which will lead past an abandoned cart, a pack of 5 nekkers can usually be found guarding this cart.
Find the witch's hut Edit
The witch's hut is straight on down the path.
Talk to the witch in her hut Edit
When Geralt approaches the Witch's hut a large group of villagers asking for her help will soon disperse as she tells them that she is done helping people for the day. Obviously the rules don't apply to Geralt so barge right into her house.
Search the hut Edit
Inside the witch appears to be missing. Search about the place to figure out where she's disappeared to (it is not the very obvious trap door to the basement).
- Ordinary ointment - nothing special
- Normal candles
- Quite a collection of books
- Valuable looking bauble
- Witches Robes
- Chalk pentagram
- Skull with inscribed symbols
Reaching for the skull, it will glow with power and open up a portal to an unknown location. So that's where she disappeared to.
Enter the portal in the witch's hut. Edit
Geralt will be transported a short distance away to an underground cavern complete with grass, shrubs, trees and a large rabbit population.
Find the witch. EditApproach the building in the center of the cavern, Keira Metz, the witch will call out to Geralt to ascend the stairs to come see her. Hurry up the steps to be greeted by a "pleasant view".
Talk to Keira about Ciri Edit
Speak with Keira, Geralt may ask her about her dealings in Velen and other sorceresses of the lodge. Keira will tell the witcher that an elven mage had been asking about Ciri. The mage wore a mask and asked to be led to meet with Ciri. Keira offers to bring you to meet this mage, who is hiding in some elven ruins in the Southwestern wilderness just Northwest of the Byways signpost. Agree to go with her and the quest ends.
Additional Info Edit
Closing Quest Description Edit
- "The peasants of Midcopese were not overly talkative, but in the end Geralt managed to get enough hints out of them to find the witch's hut.Unfortunately, Keira had not actually encounted Ciri, and the witch metioned in Hendrik's notes was nowhere to be found. Geralts' efforts were not entirely in vain, however, The sorceress had recently entertained an unexpected quest - a masked elven mage. This mysterious visitor was, like Geralt, interested in Ciri's whereabouts. Keira figured the mage would be where she hand left him and set off with Geralt towards his hideout."
