The Royal Redanian Army was the core of the armed forces of the kingdom of Redania. They took part in the Second Northern War with Nilfgaard, during the battles at Brenna and Maribor.

In the battle of Brenna, the Redanian forces participating in the initial charge were led by Kobus, 9th Count de Ruyter. The rest of the Redanians were part of a hidden reinforcement, 10,000 horsemen strong, including in its ranks also Kaedwenian and Aedirnian troops. Under the leadership of General Blenheim Blenckert this force crushed the northern flank of the Nilfgaardians and turned the tide of the battle.

The following is considered game canon only and may contradict Andrzej Sapkowski's works.

At the start of the Third Northern War, the army consisted of approximately 35,000 soldiers, including 4,000 mounted knights. The force was strengthened with the addition of Kaedweni and Temerian regiments, following the fall of the two realms to Redania and Nilfgaard, respectively. Koviri mercenary companies also allied themselves with the regular forces under the command of Radovid V to assist in repelling the numerically superior Nilfgaardian invasion force.[1]

History[]

First elven-human war[]

Around the 10th or 11th century, the Redanian Army, led by Marshall Milan Raupenneck, attacked the city of Loc Muinne, slaughtering the elven inhabitants. They then marched further to Est Haemlet and committed the same massacre against the elves there. This prelude led to a violent elven-human war; easily won by the Nordlings.[2]

First Northern War[]

In 1263, during the First Northern War, the Redanian Army, along with the forces of Aedirn, Temeria, and Kaedwen, faced the invading Nilfgaardian Army in Lower Sodden, during the Battle of Sodden Hill. The northern armies were under the united leadership of King Vizimir II of Redania, and were successful in halting the Nilfgaardian invasion.[3]
