Devil's Pit is a large abandoned quarry located east from the village of Mulbrydale in Velen that has been taken over by a group of deserters from the Temerian army.

With Patch 4.0, the next-gen update, this location was given a quest that occurs within the cave system here, In the Eternal Fire's Shadow and, depending on the outcome, Devil's Pit may become inhabited once more. If so, a merchant will also appear in the house outside the gates, which will be unlocked.

Map description[]

The inhabitants of Velen believe the expanse of caverns underneath the Devil's Pit are home to demons.

Notes[]

  • Devil's Pit was originally a field hospital for plague victims but since the Catriona questline was entirely cut, the area has been repurposed.[1]
  • Prior to Patch 4.0:
    • It featured an extensive cave system that was inaccessible by any conventional means in-game, because it was unfinished. Inside was an isolated bed with candles around it - almost certainly the place of ritual involving Martin's body. Further into the cavern stands a huge stone object, likely a sigil that was connected to demonic presence.
    • Unlike other bandit camp locations in the game, enemies here respawn even after clearing the entire place of both enemies and loot. This and the swarm of nekkers just south of the signpost made it a popular place to level up Aerondight.
  • Since Patch 4.0:
    • The fast-travel signpost is moved a bit to the east and there are no longer nekkers to the south.
    • If the deacon dies at the end of the quest, the pit is infested by respawning ghouls.

Trivia[]

  • If the place is inhabited again after the quest, a dog named Kal can be seen around. This is in reference to Henry Cavill's dog.
