Nameless is a main quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. If In Wolf's Clothing hasn't been completed yet, both quests can run concurrently here.

Walkthrough[]

Enter Freya's garden through the steps on whichever side and once you reach the tree in the middle, some dialogue follows and it is decided that Geralt should handle the tracking on his own.

Using witcher senses you will find blood trails and footsteps. Following the footsteps to the right leads to the bottom level, where you have to fight off multiple wolves and in a roundabout way ends at a locked door, very close to where you started. You will also find other clues here, which are part of In Wolf's Clothing. If you've already completed that quest, the door will be unlocked, so push ahead through and you'll see a well that you have to jump into. However, if you haven't dealt with Morkvarg yet, in order to avoid complicating matters it's best to just follow the blood trail instead.

Following the blood to the left, you'll have to deal with a lone wolf near a dead body. If you inspect the corpse, Geralt will remark it's not Craven and will yell out his findings to Yennefer. She'll say you need to return to her, because she can't hear you, but upon doing that you just get berated for wasting her time, so don't bother. Push ahead and cross the small wooden bridge, after which climb the ladder and you will find two levers there.

The one on your right selects the gate you wish to open while the other opens or closes it. Between the two levers, a wooden stick indicates which of the three gates is selected. The one you need to open is the one in front of you when facing the levers. Use the right lever to open the gate matched to the middle stick. The quest will update when you open the correct one. Note: The lever that selects the door you wish to open works only when all gates are closed, so don't expect to open all three at the same time.

Once the gate is open, jump in the water, go through the opened gate, climb the ledge and then find a ladder that will take you to the remaining part of the garden. Head left and you will reach the other side of the locked door, with Skjall's footsteps and blood leading from it into a well. Jump down, and Geralt will get to spook Yennefer once he starts yelling. After a short conversation, push forward and you will find the Craven/Skjall's body. Note: Examining the body will trigger a cutscene with Yennefer at the top, back outside the well, so it's best to explore a little ahead in the cave, pick up the key from the skeleton and open the exit in front of it. Else you will have to run all the way back again if you wish to visit it again.

Now examine the body and Geralt will tell Yen that Craven/Skjall is dead, she will be unhappy but tell him to bring his corpse to her. Once Geralt does that Yen will explain her plan - she will use the garden's energy to revive the poor fellow using necromancy. Once she does and forces him to talk, the quest ends (200XP earned based on the Story and Swords! difficulty level) and you're put into Ciri's shoes for The Calm Before the Storm.

After the scene returns to Yennefer and Geralt, the garden has died during the whole process and the priestesses show up furious about this. Yennefer will admit she is to blame for it all, keeping Geralt somewhat still in favor with them. After a short conversation, this completes the Skellige part for In Ciri's Footsteps, starts The Last Wish (quest) and if you haven't met Uma yet, you will also get the small quest A Mysterious Passenger.

Journal entry[]

While talking to the inhabitants of Larvik, Geralt and Yennefer found out Ciri had been in the village right before the Wild Hunt had descended upon it. She had ridden off with a man called Craven, heading towards Drowned Dead Rock. Geralt and Yennefer decided they had to find this Craven - though both knew there was little chance he would still be alive when they did. The monster dwelling in Freya's garden did not take kindly to visitors.
Geralt, an expert tracker if there ever was one, had little trouble retracing Craven's footsteps. Putting the lie to his insulting nickname, Craven had bravely faced the monster in the garden... and, sad to say, was mortally wounded as a result. Feeling the life seep out of him, Craven found shelter in an underground chamber. That is where he died, and that is where Geralt found his body. This could have marked the end of the trail, and most certainly would have, dear reader, if not for Yennefer's determination...

  • There is an error in the game's journal entry. Ciri appeared, and the Wild Hunt subsequently attacked, the village of Lofoten, not Larvik.
