Faithful Friend is a secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Note: This quest is only accessible during the Empress ending and it must be completed before Something Ends, Something Begins.

Walkthrough[]

After leaving the White Orchard inn, Geralt will witness a horse throwing a peasant off its back and make a run for it. Chase it and it will lead you to a Temerian soldier, who turns out to be the horses real owner returning from war.

Note: If you are quick enough you can actually hop on the horse, who you will be unable to control except for making it run faster, which doesn't change anything but makes the chase easier. However, since the distance is so short anyway, this doesn't make any practical difference.

You can inquire the soldier about his exploits during the war. He will reveal the horse's name is Gulden and that he left the horse with his friend Mirko (the peasant from the start). The soldier will reward Geralt with 15 Oren3 and then ride Gulden back into the village and the quest ends. (20XP earned based on the Story and Swords! difficulty level)

If you follow him he will talk to Mirko, who will now understand why Gulden ran off and identify the soldier as Hubrecht. After that Hubrecht will enter the nearby house, while Mirko will take care of Gulden and promise to bring something to drink.

Journal entry[]

Some time after he reunited with Yennefer in White Orchard, Geralt returned to that village. During his previous visit, he had hunted a griffin. This time, his task was to catch a runaway horse.
The horse belonged to a soldier returning from war. It turned out it had run off to seek its beloved master. Geralt got into a chat with the soldier and listened to a few of his bitter words about the last phases of the war.

Objectives[]

  • Catch the runaway horse.

Notes[]

  • In the Polish (original) version the horse is named "Dukat".
  • Prior to Patch 4.0, there was no reward for this quest, even though the soldier supposedly gives Geralt something.
