This quest is automatically started at the completion of The Secrets of Loc Muinne if you asked to use the prototype Megascope once or refused to hand it over.
Walkthrough
To complete this you need to collect all five (or four if you did not kill Adalbert) of Dearhenna's notes. They are all in the same room where the quest is started so this quest is very quick and trivially easy.
Simply search the entire room for Dearhenna's Notes.
Dearhenna's Notes IV is dropped by Adalbert when killed and is not required for completion of this quest if you chose not to fight and kill him. However, sparing him will mean that A Tome Truly Rare will not be available.
To finish the quest talk to Cynthia. You can find her in the tavern entrance at the Loc Muinne marketplace.
Journal Entry
- Geralt found multiple excerpts from Dearhenna's journal in the cellars of Loc Muinne. In one, the sorcerer mentioned a grimoire he had penned. Given its author's genius, this scholarly tome would likely be very valuable. Keeping an eye out for it was a smart idea without question, and Geralt did so.
- If Geralt asked to use the device once at the end of The Secrets of Loc Muinne:

The sorceress also proved craftier than our hero and outmaneuvered him. Dearhenna's masterpiece landed in Nilfgaardian hands.
- If Geralt refuses to hand over the device at the end of The Secrets of Loc Muinne:
- The journal excerpts Geralt found indicated the Dearhanna was not interesting in Loc Muinne's past per se, but in the Vran race that built the city and in the mystery of their extinction. The witcher quickly realised the Nilfgaardians were interested in the same, and not because they had a passion for history. Whatever had killed the Vrans could very well be useful to the Emperor as a weapon. Believing Emhyr capable of genocide, the witcher grew wary.
