City Guard Signet Ring

The City Guard signet ring, besides being a lovely gold ring given to Geralt by Vincent Meis in Act II, allows entry into one of two semi-restricted areas within the Temple Quarter: the dike and St. Lebioda's Hospital. . Although this ring cannot be bought initially, once acquired, it can be sold and then repurchased, hence the prices below.

Depending on how the plot has unfolded, Geralt obtains this ring for one of two purposes, either to gain access to the Swamp via the dike, or to access St. Lebioda's Hospital. Vincent only gives Geralt the ring after the witcher finds irrefutable proof that the captain is not involved with Salamandra.

[edit] Access to the Hospital

If Geralt teams up with Siegfried to fight the cockatrice in Prison Break, then the hospital is guarded by a city guard who requires either the signet ring or a bribe of 30 orens before he will let Geralt enter. However, Siegfried waits by the gates to the Dike until Geralt arrives and vouches for him when he tries to go to the Dike, securing passage to the swamp.

[edit] Access to the Dike

If Geralt worked alone in the sewers, then the signet ring is required to gain access to the dike, as Siegfried is the lucky guard stationed at the hospital (a punishment from the Order for failing to kill the cockatrice himself) and is not there at the gates to the Dike to vouch for the witcher. Since Siegfried already knows the witcher, and about his physiology, he does not prevent Geralt from entering the hospital. The guards at the Dike gate however need to be bribed with 60 orens to let Geralt pass.

• The city guard ring is completely useless in the game if Geralt decided to do the The Beast of the Sewers on his own as in order to acquire it, he will have to have entered the dike to meet Leuvaarden and Coleman (after finishing The Rat).
